Make A Change, Stop The Bullying

I just found out that October is National Anti-Bullying Month and decided to write on this subject. It seems like bullying is at it’s all time high and have reached a whole new level. So many young children and teenage kids fall victims to bullying. And so many of them resort to committing suicide because they feel they have no one to talk to. Kids shouldn’t want or have to kill themselves because of inconsiderate people who don’t care about other peoples feelings. It shouldn’t be this way. All the violence and all the hate needs to end because it is sickening and all it does is cause more hate and more pain for so many people. There is so much more to life than a petty argument or a disagreement or a fight.

Bullying has become more cowardly and more harmful to this generation of kids then how it was in our generation or the generation of our parents. It isn’t the same as how our parents were brought up with or even the bullying we had in our childhood. Bullies back then was where one of the bigger kids demanded your lunch money or demanded you do their homework for them. Now, in today’s day in age, bullies hide behind a large shield called the internet, using a psychological tear down of every aspect of someone’s life. Social media makes it easy for these bullies to target their victims. Facebook and Twitter seem to be the most used tool to bullying. Parents take time out and talk to your children about their online activity and make sure they are safe before it’s too late!!

We as parents have got to get it together! If we don’t care, who will? Ending bullying begins at home, kids only do what they see. We need to stop trying to be our kids friend and start being a parent.  We need to set the example for our kids and start teaching them the difference between right and wrong. We need to teach our children that it is not okay to pick on someone because they are different or to fight and call other people names.

Visit the STOMP Out Bullying website for some more information on this sad but very true subject and for tips to help you talk to your children and raise awareness about bullying.
