3 Practical Methods To Navigate the “Bumps” of Your First Trimester

The heartache and stress of trying for a baby can all but disappear when you see that blue line for the first time. And for all of the relief you feel, this could be when you start to worry because of the precarious nature of that first trimester. What can you really do to help yourself throughout the first 12 weeks, which is the most worrying part of pregnancy for many?

1. Choose Your Information Sources Wisely

It’s important to learn as much as you can, but there can be a limit to what you should read about. If you spend a long time trying to get pregnant, you may want to observe as much information as you can so you can feel in control of any form of stress, but it is important to remember that Dr. Google can make you feel even more anxious. When you start reading an online forum, and you start digging deep into the little details associated with the ultrasound, you could tell yourself you’re trying to get a sense of the bigger picture, but when you start reading about the portable ultrasound devices and every little piece of the process, is it going to help you relax? It is so important to choose your resources carefully. The best resources are always with your healthcare provider, not Dr. Google.

2. Focus on What You Can Control

We are inevitably scared because of the overwhelming statistics around the first trimester miscarriages. If you are worried about this, it might be helpful to know that approximately 50% of miscarriages within the first trimester are due to fetal chromosome abnormalities, not anything that you do. What you can, and should, do during these first 12 weeks is to focus on what you can control, by having a healthy diet and also having a healthy perspective. It’s important to have a well-rounded diet, but also make sure that you are exercising likely, but also looking after your mind. Be careful not to overdo it- it’s about being moderate in your efforts at this stage.

3. Practicing Self-Care

Self-care is so important, especially if you are worried. It is a lesson that we can learn right now to see us through the pregnancy, but also through our lives. Self-care is about making sure that you are healthy and happy. With so much focus on the baby, we can forget to look after ourselves, but this is why we should make the most of the many prenatal services around, such as prenatal yoga prenatal massages, and if you like meditation, there are many guided meditation applications. You must remember that you have to pamper yourself during the first trimester because it’s not just going to help you relax, but it sets you up for a long and healthy pregnancy. Just make sure that you are doing it safely. For example, you may want a long hot bath, but make sure that your body temperature doesn’t go above 101 degrees F.

Those first 12 weeks are a lot of ups and downs, but as long as you look after yourself properly, there is no reason why you cannot have a healthy and happy pregnancy, and enjoy these first 12 weeks.
