When you become a parent, you start to realize that you approach vacations differently to your children. For us, the perfect holiday consists of doing absolutely nothing at all. We could lie in peace for two weeks straight, and it would be ideal. For kids, their idea of perfection involves constantly doing something. They don’t want to sunbathe for hours on end or make their way through multiple books – they need some action.
Luckily, plenty of family vacation ideas won’t bore the kids, but will also give you a chance to relax as well. I’ve listed some of my faves below, but I’d be interested to hear any of your ideas too!
A Cruise
Cruises are fancy, but they basically the perfect holiday idea for families. Why? Because they give you the best of both worlds. There are entertainment areas that keep your kids intrigued for days on end, there are lots of other children they can make friends with, and there are endless sunbeds for you to lie on while your children play.
You can book cruises to loads of different places, but there are some things to be wary of before you go. Firstly, make sure you pack some smart clothes as they do have dress codes on the boat. Secondly, if anyone in your family ever gets hurt on the ship, then take the advice of Hofmann Law Firm’s maritime accident attorney and don’t sign any papers that you might be given. Accidents can happen due to slippery surfaces, and signing papers pretty much mean you admit fault or don’t blame the cruise company. Hopefully, this will never be an issue, but if it is, don’t sign things before getting legal advice as you can win some compensation. Thirdly, pick an all-inclusive cruise so everything is paid for up-front, and you can just relax for the whole vacation.
Disneyland/Disneyworld
Depending on where you are in the world, then going to one of the incredible Disney parks is always a massive winner for kids. It’s impossible for them to be bored here, it’s literally impossible. There are plenty of rides that are perfect for children of all ages – and us parents can actually enjoy them as well. But, if you don’t like rollercoasters, then you still get ample relaxation time as you chill out while your children queue up for the rides!
The great thing about Disneyland or Disneyworld is that they have everything all in one place. There are restaurants to eat at, hotels to stay in, and so much for everyone to see and do. Plus, what I love most about this vacation idea is that your kids get tired out. Running around a huge theme park all day takes a lot of energy. So, they’ll be knocked out fast asleep in the evenings, which gives us parents a chance to relax, unwind, and enjoy our vacation.
A Beach Holiday
Beach holidays are pretty much any holiday destination that has a beautiful beach for you to enjoy. Beaches are brilliant for parents and children as you can sunbathe while they build sandcastles and enjoy playing in the sea. Of course, if your children do go into the sea, make sure one of your supervises them! Also, with beach holidays, there are plenty of other activities the whole family can enjoy as well. A lot of beaches have things like surfing lessons for kids, snorkeling, or other water sports. So, you can all get involved with this.
Seeing as I’m not talking about one specific destination, this gives you the freedom to choose your beach holiday as you see fit. My advice is to pick a location that’s known to be family-friendly, has excellent weather, and can provide loads of activities for the kids to take part in.
Joint Vacations
A joint vacation is an idea that helps out more than one family at the same time. If you’ve got friends with kids, then why don’t you all go on vacation together? You could stay in a nice resort, and your kids won’t get bored because they have other children to play with!
I love this idea because it lets you have some downtime with your close friends while the children get to bond and have fun. Also, it widens your options because you can go pretty much anywhere in the world – the kids will make entertainment for themselves as a little group!
Like I said, these are just some of my favorite ideas, but I’m open to suggestions.
