Three Easy Ways To Get your Kids Involved In Chores

One of the most common conflicts in many family homes is getting the kids involved in housework and chores. You will likely ask your kids to clean their teeth, wash their hands, put on their shoes, or help with daily household duties. But children have a very clever way of getting away with not helping.

So, there are going to be tasks such as creating a meal plan for a 1 year old or dealing with the main cleaning of the home that the parents will take care of, but there are always going to be small, simple tasks that the children can do too.

Children who take part in chores will start to take responsibility, increase their self-esteem, and have a strong sense of family importance. A chore chart is a good tool to help with this too.

Let’s have a look at some of the ways you can get your children involved in chores at home:

1. Choose Age Appropriate Tasks

You already have an endless list of tasks that need to be completed as a parent, however, it is important for you to take the time to help your children do their chores or get involved with your chores. Even young children can help you. Even if it is just putting their socks away in their drawer or washing the vegetables under the tap after they have chopped them. Giving your children age-appropriate tasks is the key to this.

Once you notice that your child has grasped the one chore, you can start to add more complicated tasks to their list. Remember that your child may not be able to do all the task straight away so they need your guidance.

2. Create A Rota For Chores

Creating a rota for chores, for you and your children can really help with getting everyone involved. Structure really is key. It’s best if you put together a rota and write down whose responsibility it is to get the tasks done. Your kids will know what is expected of them then. They will also see that they aren’t the only people doing chores around the house. Not only this, they will be able to learn about task management and prioritization. If you find that your kids aren’t doing their tasks, you might need to find ways to encourage them. Try to avoid doing tasks for them just because you want to get it done.

3. Offer Them An Allowance

There are many ways that children and teens can make a little bit of money. Doing chores for an allowance is one of them. It is important for you to teach your children that they are able to do this. Having chores teaches your children responsibility and how doing different levels of chores can reward them in different ways. Even though your kids may not feel the same benefit as you when the floors are swept, or find that rewarding, they will find an allowance or a treat rewarding in the same way.

These three tips will help you to encourage your kids to take part in chores around the home.
