The 3 S’s Of Successful Blogging

There are many reasons why people blog.

Some people blog for the hobbyist aspect. With a love for writing, they can use their blog as a platform to hone their skills, no matter what subject they enjoy writing about.

Others blog as a side-hustle. Not content with making one income from their usual occupation, they also look for ways to monetize their blog to boost their existing bank balance.

And others blog as part of their career. Freelance writers might keep their own blog as a portfolio to showcase to potential clients, and business owners might use a blog to highlight their products and services to customers.

They were just a few examples, and for all we know, you might relate to one of them. Still, no matter the raison d’etre behind your blog, there are three things that need to be taken into consideration if you want to experience success with your efforts. We refer to them at the 3 S’s of blogging.

S is for SEO. There are thousands of blogs online, so taking this into account, the chances of your blog being noticed are slim to none! This sucks, especially with all of the effort you have put into creating something awesome for others to read. However, you can increase your chances of success by engaging with SEO (Search Engine Optimisation). With the right keywords and links in your blog, you can escalate your way up Google’s search engine pages to ensure you can easily be found online. Yoast has some useful ideas on how to write a Google-friendly blog post, so have a read and follow their examples.

S is for Social. Consider this in two ways. Firstly, you need to market your blog to acquire a readership, and one of the best ways to do this is to post links on social media. Let your legion of friends and followers know about your blog, and your latest posts, and encourage them to check out and bookmark your site. Secondly, when you do start to acquire readers, you need to engage with them. When they leave comments on your blog page, thank them, and respond accordingly. Ask them for feedback occasionally so you can better hone your blog to their needs. And even ask some of your readers to guest blog for you if you think they have the credentials to do. Blogging is about being part of a community, so if you want people to actively engage with your blog, you need to interact with them.

S is for Security. Don’t assume you are safe from being hacked. All websites online are vulnerable, and you need to take steps to prevent it. This includes setting up strong passwords for your blog and all of your accounts online, installing antivirus software and firewalls on your system, and updating your system and blogging software to protect yourself from the latest cyber threats. You might also use the services of IT specialists such as Quest who will advise you on security threats and data breaches, and who will give you advice on how to manage the risks to your site. If you don’t take these steps, you could find yourself locked out of your blog by the malicious hacker. You could lose valuable data, including any sensitive information that could put you, and your customers/readers at risk. And having been hacked, you might lose your readership, because after all, would you visit a site that had been compromised? To protect your blog, and to retain the loyalty of those who use your blog, take the necessary steps to safeguard yourself.

So, focus on your SEO, be Social, and take steps to improve your blog’s Security. By following these 3 S’s, you have a greater chance of that other S word, and that is Success!
