The mornings are starting to get darker and the days shorter, and pulling yourself out from under your duvet in the mornings, or after a long day at work is probably the last thing you want to do. But did you know that moving your body and persevering with your fitness routine is actually the best thing for you as we approach this new fall season – boosting your energy levels and providing more opportunity for some fresh air?
Making yourself, your health and your fitness, a priority this coming fall and winter is the best thing that you can do for your body as well as your mental health.
Here are three ways you can boost your fitness mojo and ensure that your fire for your workouts is stronger than ever.
Treat yourself to some new activewear
While this can be perceived as a little bit vain, this small change really works and gets you excited to work out. Giving you that much-needed boost, new gym clothes will not only make you feel comfortable and more put together during your workouts, they will also make you feel confident, which isn’t always so easy. Sell your sneakers and treat yourself to some new ones, invest in some new leggings, tank tops and even sports accessories, whatever makes you feel excited and re-motivated to move your body and get your blood pumping again. Remember that you don’t have to invest in the most expensive sports clothes either – if you aren’t a professional athlete, you can look just as good in unbranded gear as you can in Nike or Adidas. As long as it makes you feel and look your best, that’s all that counts and can go a really long way to giving you that push you need to hit your fitness goals.
Update your playlist
Music is a great way to push you through your workouts and make you want to move. To inject a bit of life into your routine search through Spotify for new songs and update your playlist, or even create a new one. Choose songs that make you want to move and make you feel good or anything that has a good beat and rhythm that you can use to get you going. Sometimes rock and metal music, or songs that help to express emotions such as anger, are a really great and almost therapeutic option, allowing you to release any pent up energy that you may have and using it as fuel for something good. Create multiple playlists for different exercises, or multitask learning with exercising and download podcasts about topics that interest you to make the time fly by. If you don’t usually have much me-time, having this one time during your time to do something beneficial for you while enjoying music or developing yourself is guaranteed to give you the motivation that you need.
Switch up your routine
It’s easy to lose motivation when you are doing the same routine week in and week out. It’s also not great for your fitness goals – once your body gets used to a particular exercise routine any changes that you might have seen in your body tend to plateau and lead you into a fitness rut. Avoid this and boost your motivation at the same time by changing it up, either by adding some new exercises into your routine, trying out a new class, or taking up a completely different sport altogether alongside your pre-existing training. The challenge of having to learn something new will make you look forward to getting up and moving your body even more, especially now with the darker mornings and shorter days. Even if you don’t have a particular goal in mind, switching it up can bring back fresh excitement and can even be fun.
