There are many great reasons why you might want to try and change your body for the better. Obviously, many of us have our sense of self tied up at least in part with how we look, and looking good is often going to go hand in hand with feeling good about ourselves. But on top of that, it’s also generally true that having a good body means you are looking after it well, and that means you are leading a healthy and engaged life which you can be proud of. In this article, we are going to look at the process you might want to follow if you are keen to try and get the body you want. You might be surprised at how easy it can be, no matter what point you are starting out from.
Be Honest With Yourself
Before you actually do anything, it is worth taking some time to identify a number of key things regarding how you think about your body and how you approach things of this nature. For one, you are going to want to make sure you are being honest with yourself – about where you currently stand with your body, and about the changes you want to make. You also, most importantly, need to get clear on why you want to make those changes, as in that lies the key to this whole thing.
If you do this blind, without knowing why you are actually doing it, you might find that you struggle to make it work or enjoy the process. It’s better to identify as clearly as possible what kind of impetus might be behind your desire to change your body. If it comes from a basic insecurity about your whole being, you might be better off first dealing with that source issue, before changing anything about your body – otherwise no physical changes you make are going to make any difference to how you feel in the long run.
Likewise, if you just want to try and impress people, you should probably not do this for that reason, and you will never impress everyone. The best reason to change your body is because you want to be fit, healthy and to enjoy looking at yourself in the mirror. All of that is achievable for everyone, and it’s good to do so for those reasons. By being honest with yourself about all of this, you can make sure that you are more likely to achieve the body you want, and the whole process will be significantly easier.
Spend as long as you need to on this part of the process. It really does make a huge difference to everything that follows. The clearer you are on your motivation, and the better a sense of where you are going you have, the more likely it is that you are going to succeed with everything you hope to achieve.
Identify Your Goals
Instead of merely rushing into things and trying to make a thousand changes to your body at once, it’s better to have a sense of what you are specifically going to try and improve or change. Everyone has their own body goals, and identifying what yours are is going to empower you to make the change that you need to make. Remember in all of this that what goals you have are up to you, and there is no such thing as an incorrect goal. But it is important to get as close to it as possible, and to make it as specific as you can as well.
There are certainly a few major types of goals that you might be keen to follow for yourself. First of all, you might be keen to be fit and healthy, to feel energetic and able to move around easily and freely. That means that you are going to be working on improving your bodily health and possibly its appearance at the same time. Or you might want to be a certain size, and try to fit into a certain dress or pair of trousers, or whatever it might be. You might want to slim down or bulk up. You might want to tone, to stretch those limbs. You might even want to completely change your style and the way you dress to match.
Whatever you decide you want to do, make sure that you are clear on exactly what it is, as that is the first necessary step to working out how to get there. If you want to lose weight – how much weight, exactly? You get the picture. By being clear about your goals, you are much more likely to be able to get the body you want, so this is a hugely valuable thing that you should be paying close attention to.
Scheduling
Once you have an idea about what kind of change you most want to make, you might want to think about scheduling it out. Finding a calendar and actually putting in some dates for your goal is a great way to solidify it. That way, even if you don’t quite match that goal, you are going to find that you still get there or close to it at another time, so it works out regardless. But it’s not just the ultimate goal that you need to schedule in.
You should also schedule steps along the way, particularly major steps which you know you need to take to reach your specific goals. What these are will all depend, but make sure that you don’t overlook this or else it could lead to some real trouble, and you might end up failing. Whatever your schedule needs to be, draw it up and make it big, and ensure that you are really going to be able to follow it. It should be neither impossible nor non-challenging. If you can manage to find that balance, you are going to be in a very good position indeed, so it is an important thing to focus on.
A Little At A Time
Throughout all of this, it’s best to try and make changes a little at a time. Most bodily changes take a while to come to fruition, and that’s just how it is. You need to make sure that you allow for that, and you will soon find that one of the most important parts of this type of path is patience. As long as you have enough patience, you won’t mind that it takes a while to see changes, and you will be able to continue even when it seems that nothing much is happening.
Think about the goal of losing weight. Anyone who has ever tried to lose a decent amount of weight will know that it’s not something that takes place overnight. It takes a lot of time before you see significant changes. You have to stick with it. Remembering this is the key to keeping motivated, so it’s an important thing to think about. Similarly, when you are scheduling at the start, try not to achieve too much in a short space of time. You’ll only disappoint yourself, and then you’ll start to feel a little lost.
That being said, it doesn’t mean that you should only make one change at a time, merely that you should be careful at the rate you expect results. If you are seeking a significant change, it is probably usually best to approach it from a number of angles at once. In other words, you should try to change your mindset and approach, as well as trying to change your basic habits like eating and exercising. You need to do it all if you are to see results, and the more you do this the sooner you will get to where you want to go.
However, do be wary of trying to do too much at once. As with trying to do things too quickly, this will only mean that you frustrate yourself, tire yourself out, and ultimately fail. Try to find the perfect balance. It can take some practice to get that, but it is necessary if you want to reach your body goals.
Learn The Science
During all of this, you are going to have a much easier time of it if you know some of the science behind it. That will help you to understand why you are doing what you’re doing, which is an important source of inspiration but also helps you to know that you are actually doing something that works – which in turn means you are going to be more motivated to continue. So spend some time learning about nutrition, how exercise works and what it does, and so on. The more you know, the better equipped you are to make the right changes in the right way.
Getting the body you want doesn’t have to be too much of a challenge. Just make sure that you are aware of all of the above, and you can do it.
