My review:
First I would like to say thanks to USFamilyGuide.com for providing us with 4 tickets to the Harlem Globetrotters while they were in town. I’ve heard a lot about them but never got to go to one of their games. I’m so glad I was able to be part of this event.
It was my husband, our daughter, my grandmother and myself that attended the Harlem Globetrotters game. We all had a blast! At first when we arrived to the Target center, I didn’t think my daughter was going to have fun but as soon as the game started I can see from the corner of my eye that she was enjoying it a lot. I can hear her and see her facial expression every time they did a trick.
The Globetrotters put on a great show! We were laughing and cheering the whole time. They definitely know how to keep the audience entertained with the many crazy things they did throughout the entire game, like the amazing slam dunks and acrobatics (flips and somersaults), the audience participation (dancing, clapping, contests, and more), standing on the basketball hoop and we even had an appearance by Globie the Mascot which was just hilarious!
A new feature they added this year was called “You Write the Rules” and what this is, is that you, the audience gets to vote for a new rule to be added to the game in each quarter. In the first 3rd quarters the voting is done online and through Twitter before the game starts and in the 4th quarter the voting was done live, where the fans got to cheer for the rule they wanted. The rules were:
- TWO Ball Basketball. Yeah, you read that right. Globetrotter basketball played with TWO balls at the same time? Craziest idea ever? How will THAT work?!
- Double Points. Do the math. Who wouldn’t love scoring double points for every basket? You could see off-the-charts high numbers on the scoreboard if you
- 4 Point Shot. THIRTY-FIVE feet from the basket, WAY beyond the NBA 3 point line. Our fans’ #1 favorite shot, so tough that you’ll ONLY see it in Globetrotter basketball. Want MORE 4 Point shots?
- Penalty Box. The Penalty Box was where the ref sent Globetrotters to cool their heels. This year, both teams could end up there for ALL fouls, ALL the time. Want to see that?
- 6 on 5. FIVE Globetrotters will play SIX opponents??? How will The Globetrotters get out of THAT jam?
The winning rules for the game in Minneapolis was the two basketballs, 4 point shot, double points and 6 on 5. I thought that adding the new rules to each quarter was a fantastic idea. We loved it! Our favorite was the two basketballs. After watching the Globetrotters play with two basketballs along with their tricks, all I can say is THEY ARE TALENTED!
Before the game started my husband got a Harlem Globetrotters basketball as a souvenir and at the end of the game we went down on the court to get some autographs of the players. It was so packed that we only got one autograph. As we were leaving I looked over to the side and notice the main player, Special K was signing autographs. I looked over at my husband and said “Hey lets get in line so we can get his autograph too.” So we ended up walking over there and got in line. We go there just in time because we were the last ones they were letting in the line.
Overall, my family enjoyed going to the Harlem Globetrotters game. It was super fun and very entertaining! I most definitely would go back to another game. To me its like a basketball game made for the whole family.
