If you have a dog, then you will know how much they fill your life with love and companionship. They will encourage you to get up off the couch and put your phone down as well. After all, who can resist those puppy eyes? If you want to make sure that you and your dog are staying fit, then this is the guide for you.
Fetch
If your dog isn’t great at retrieving, then the fact that they are just chasing the ball is fantastic exercise for them. If your dog doesn’t bring the toy back, then you are getting exercise by having to walk over to it. If your dog does retrieve, then you still get exercise by throwing it.
Swimming
Not every dog likes water. On top of this, not all dogs can swim. If your dog loves water, then this is a fantastic way for the both of you to spend some time doing something that you love. If your dog likes to swim, then consider buying them a pet safety vest. You also need to make sure that they can leave the water when they are ready. If your dog is doing a lot of activity, you’ll need to invest in some healthy food for dogs so they can keep their energy up.
Take a Hike
Pack some water and a collapsible bowl for your pooch and go hiking. You also need to make sure that you take some snacks with you too. If you and your dog are new to hiking, then make sure that you start out with a small trek and then build it up to much more challenging trails. You also need to make sure that you take regular water breaks. If you are walking on hot pavement then you will need to make sure that you protect your dog’s paws, as much as possible.
Explore the Neighborhood
Some dogs just aren’t made for huge hikes, and this is especially the case if you have a more brachycephalic breed. This can include bulldogs and pugs. That doesn’t mean to say that they do not need exercise, but it does mean that they are not made to walk miles and miles. Flat-faced dogs, which include Boston Terriers and French Bulldogs can also experience breathing difficulties when it comes to exercising, so make sure that you explore this before you take them on a really strenuous trip.
Agility
If you have a very agile dog, then why not think about signing them up for an agility course? You can easily sign up for a class in your area or you can join an open agility course. Agility courses will get both you and your dog moving, not to mention that you will need to guide your dog through all kinds of obstacles too. They will need to go up and down the seesaw and they will also need to navigate the different jumps too. You will get fit by just helping them to do this, not to mention that it is a fun and rewarding experience for both of you.
